The Nineteenth Day!

The nineteenth day

Is it not a shameful and cursed boldness that the poor man who only deserves in all things to be crossed, dares to imagine that he will first apply himself seriously to the service of God, when God the Lord shall grant him this or that which he would gladly possess? How so? Though the Lord should never give us what we wish, yet we are still equally obliged to do that which He requires. Therefore, Lord! grant that I may in the first place practise what Thou requirest, knowing that this is the readiest way to obtain what I would gladly have.

Without God?

“The average person in the world today, without faith and without God and without hope, is engaged in a desperate personal search and struggle throughout his lifetime. He does not really know what he is doing here. He does not know where he is going.”

Adulting and Hard Things

One of my favorite Jesus girls, Lisa Whittle posted something today that had me smacking my desk at work and nodding a big “uhh huh… yes ma’am” out loud. (I was on a distracted Instagram break… I know nobody ever does that.)

“Here’s what I’ve realized. People can do hard things without God. But we can’t do hard things without God and be truly ok. Eventually everything will crack and crumble.”

Isn’t that the truth. I’ve seen this little saying all over the place, maybe you have too:

“We can do hard things.”

True? Sometimes. I imagine this to be some kind of rally cry response to that other popular t-shirt catch phrase “Adulting is hard”.

Being a grown up is hard. It requires us to do crappy, difficult things at times. We can do it alone or with Jesus, it’s our choice…. Continue reading on the link below:

The Discipline Of Spiritual Tenacity!

“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

Tenacity is more than endurance, it is endurance combined with the absolute certainty that what we are looking for is going to transpire. Tenacity is more than hanging on, which may be but the weakness of being too afraid to fal off. Tenacity is the supreme effort of a man refusing to believe that his hero is going to be conquered. The greatest fear a man has is not that he wil be damned, but that Jesus Christ wil be worsted, that the things He stood for – love and justice and forgiveness and kindness among men – wil not win out in the end; the things He stands for look like wil -o’-the-wisps. Then comes the cal to spiritual tenacity, not to hang on and do nothing, but to work deliberately on the certainty that God is not going to be worsted.

If our hopes are being disappointed just now, it means that they are being purified. There is nothing noble the human mind has ever hoped for or dreamed of that wil not be fulfil ed. One of the greatest strains in life is the strain of waiting for God. “Because thou hast kept the word of my patience.”

Remain spiritually tenacious.

Celebrity Preacher Follower?

Sometimes when I quote one of Jesus’ “tough”, “religiously incorrect” statements, some church folks, who it seems suffer from selective outrage syndrome, will snarl something like, “Who do you think you are Glenn, to disagree with________________ (insert name of celebrity preacher here)?”

My question, “Who does aforementioned celebrity preacher think he is to disagree with Jesus?”

And what’s more, “Who do you think you are to take the word of some millionaire, private jetting, mansion dwelling, snake oil selling, Bible denying, religious huckster over the words of the Creator of the universe??”

Maybe they’re right and I’m just ornery.

Growth & Power!

Many Christians backslide because this truth is not clearly taught. Some are unable to stand against temptation or their old nature.

Though they strive to do their best to fight against sin and to serve God, they have no strength. They have never really grasped the secret that the Lord Jesus will continue His work in the believer every day from heaven. But there is one condition: Time alone with the Lord Jesus each day is the indispensable condition of growth and power.
